What you need

Four things. Three you probably have.

  • 1A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 13 or later.
  • 2Kept on. Jean works around the clock, so the Mac shouldn't sleep. A Mac mini on a desk is ideal.
  • 3Your own Claude plan: Pro or Max if only you will ask Jean; Team, Enterprise or an API key if your teammates will too. Anthropic bills that usage to you.
  • 4A Slack workspace where you're allowed to add apps.

After you install

Four steps, about five minutes.

    Open Jean

    Drag Jean into Applications and open it. He lives in the menu bar and walks you through the rest. Start the 14-day trial, or paste your key.

  2. 2

    Sign in to Claude

    Jean installs Claude Code if it's missing and asks you to sign in with your own plan or API key. It reads which plan that is and sets who may ask Jean.

  3. 3

    Add to Slack

    Jean opens a prefilled page that creates his Slack app in one click. Two tokens come back; the app says where each one is.

  4. 4

    Say hello

    Mention @Jean hello with the one-time code the app shows, in the channel you want. Jean answers, learns who you are, and the team is on duty.

Your license key

On the thank-you page, and in your inbox.

Where it is

Right after you buy, the thank-you page shows your key, and a copy goes to the email you paid with. Paste it into Jean when it asks: the License step during setup, or Jean › Settings later.

One Mac at a time

A key works on one Mac. Moving? Jean › Settings › Move to another Mac frees it, then activate on the new one. Lost the old Mac? Write to us and we free it by hand.

No key for the trial

The first 14 days need no key and no card. When the trial ends, buy a plan and paste the key; your settings, notes and board carry on.

Can't find it?

Search your inbox for "Jean" and "license", check spam, or write to us from the address you bought with. Billing and receipts: manage billing.

Something not right?

Run a checkup.

Click Jean in the menu bar and choose Run checkup. It checks Claude, Slack, the background services, disk space and sleep settings, and says exactly what to fix. In Terminal, jean doctor runs the same checks.

"Not signed in to Claude"

Open Terminal, type claude, press Return and sign in. Then run the checkup again.

Jean doesn't answer in Slack

Check that the Mac is awake and online, and that you mentioned @Jean in the channel you paired during setup. If the checkup says no channel is paired yet, open Jean › Pair with Slack and send @Jean hello with the code it shows.

The Mac keeps going to sleep

Open System Settings › Energy (or Battery on a laptop) and turn on "Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off". The checkup reminds you if it's off.

Jean doesn't open when I click it

Jean is a menu bar app: look for his face at the top right. Clicking the app in Applications while it's running brings up the hub.
