Terms of Service

The plain-English deal between you and us when you buy and use Jean.

Last updated: [DATE]

Who we are

Jean is made and sold by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], [ADDRESS] ("we", "us"). Today the seller is an individual, Max Sieger; if a company takes over Jean later, we'll update these terms and tell you.

By buying, downloading or using Jean, you agree to these terms. If you're agreeing for a company, you confirm you're allowed to bind it.

What Jean is

Jean is a Mac app that runs a coordinator and a few specialist "lanes" (Claude Code sessions) on a Mac you own. Your team sends requests in Slack; Jean does the work on that Mac and asks an owner before anything irreversible.

The software runs on your Mac. Your code, files and Slack content stay there. Our servers only handle license activation and validation. See the privacy policy.

Buying Jean

  • Stripe processes the payment. Where Stripe acts as merchant of record, it also handles sales tax and VAT, invoices and receipts, and its own terms apply to the purchase.
  • Plans are monthly subscriptions. Paid plans start with a 14-day trial. Prices are shown on our pricing page before you buy.
  • Subscriptions renew each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the billing page (Stripe's customer portal, linked in your receipt email and on our support page); your plan keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Refunds are covered by our refund policy.
  • We may change prices for future billing periods. We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before a change affects you.

Your license

While your subscription is active, we give you a personal, non-transferable right to install and use Jean on the number of Macs, with the number of lanes, that your plan includes. Please don't resell Jean, share your license key outside your organisation, or try to get around the license check.

If a payment fails, Jean keeps working for a short grace period while it's sorted out, then stops running lanes until the subscription is active again. Your files and notes stay on your Mac either way.

Your own accounts: Claude and Slack

Jean runs on your Claude plan or Anthropic API key, and on your Slack workspace. Personal Claude plans (Free, Pro, Max) are one person's under Anthropic's Consumer Terms, so on them Jean takes requests from owners only; Team, Enterprise and API keys let your teammates ask. Jean reads the plan from Claude Code and applies this itself. That means:

  • You're responsible for following Anthropic's and Slack's terms and usage policies, including Anthropic's Usage Policy for what your specialists do. You sign in to Claude Code yourself, through Anthropic's own sign-in; Jean never collects, stores or forwards your Claude credentials.
  • Anthropic bills Claude usage directly to your account. Slack bills its own plans to you. Neither cost is included in Jean's price, and we don't control them.
  • What you send to Claude through Jean is handled by Anthropic under your agreement with them; what's posted in Slack is handled by Slack under yours.

Using Jean responsibly

You're responsible for what you ask Jean to do, for the lanes and permissions you set up, for who in your Slack workspace can make requests, and for who you make an owner. Don't use Jean for anything illegal, to harm others, or to break the terms of services it touches.

AI makes mistakes

Jean's lanes are AI agents. Their work can be wrong, incomplete or unsuitable, even when it looks confident. Please review what Jean hands you before you rely on it.

The approval rule (anything irreversible waits for an owner's ✅) is a safeguard, not a guarantee. It's designed to catch merges, deploys, payments, publishing, deletions and outbound email, but it can't anticipate every action, and it can't judge whether an approved action is a good idea. Keep backups and use the access controls of the services you connect.

No warranty

Jean is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that Jean or the AI's work will be correct, uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from Jean or its work. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us for Jean in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Ending things

You can stop using Jean and cancel anytime. We may suspend or end your license if you seriously break these terms, after telling you why where we reasonably can. When your license ends, Jean stops running lanes; everything on your Mac stays yours.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use Jean after that means you accept the new terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without affecting any consumer protections you have where you live.
